Blossoms drop consecutive contests at Steelman Fieldhouse

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Blossoms dropped consecutive contests at home in Steelman Fieldhouse this past week.

Hosting Oklahoma Baptist University on Thursday, January 18, the Blossoms would take the lead in the first quarter with 6:52 remaining in the first quarter on a free throw by Alyssia Thorne that broke a 4-4 tie.

The Blossoms would lead for the remainder of the quarter, taking a nine point, 21-12, lead at the end of the quarter.

UAM extended the lead to double digits on a jumper by Haleigh Crews to begin the second quarter.

OBU would battle back to take the lead by one point, 32-31, with 1:01 remaining in the half but Kelsey Blakemore would give the Blossoms the lead, 34-32, on a three pointer with 25 seconds remaining.

UAM and OBU would go back and forth throughout the third quarter with the Blossoms taking a three point, 54-51, lead into the fourth quarter.

OBU tied and took the lead on a pair of free throws with 8:01 remaining in the contest and would hold the lead for the remainder of the contest to take a 69-60 victory.

Leading the way for the Blossoms was Haleigh Crews with 16 points followed by Alindsey Long with 12 and Kelsey Blakemore with 11.

Bailey Harris scored nine points, Alyssia Thorne with six, and Jayla Sturgis with four points.

Nicole Weaver rounded out the scoring with two points.

Returning to Steelman Fieldhouse on Saturday, January 20, hosting the #5 ranked Southern Nazarene University.

SNU would take an early lead and would extend the lead to six points before the Blossoms would come back to tie the contest at 13 on a pair of free throws by Kelsey Blakemore with 1:01 remaining in the quarter.

Bailey Harris connected on a three pointer with two seconds remaining to give the Blossoms a 16-13 lead.

SNU retook the lead with 8:14 remaining in the half and would maintain the lead throughout the second quarter to take a 32-26 lead at the half.

SNU would extend their lead to double digits in the third quarter, ending the quarter with a 10 point, 52-42, lead at the end of the third quarter.

SNU continued to lead throughout the remainder of the contest, taking a 20 point, 71-51, victory.

Kelsey Blakemore led the way for the Blossoms with 17 points followed by Alindsey Long with 15.

Bailey Harris and Thailan Payne each scored five, Haleigh Crews and Azaria Hulbert with four points, and Taylor East with one point and nine rebounds.

The Blossoms return to Steelman Fieldhouse on Thursday, January 25, hosting Southern Arkansas University at 5:30 pm before traveling to Russellville to face Arkansas Tech on Saturday at 1 pm.
