Blossoms fall to Southern Arkansas 6-3 in GAC Tournament

The UAM Blossoms season ended on Friday, May 5, in the single elimination Great American Conference Championship Softball Tournament in a 6-3 defeat to the Southern Arkansas University Lady Muleriders. 

Coming into the tournament, the Blossoms had faced the Lady Muleriders three times during the regular season, dropping all three meetings 5-1, 9-2, and 10-4 and had earned a 5-4 record since the last game against Southern Arkansas back on April 11.

Maguire Estill would get the call to start in the circle for the Blossoms in their opening game of the tournament and would give the Blossoms 3.2 innings of work.

After two scoreless innings by both teams, Southern Arkansas would get on the board first in the bottom of the third inning on two solo home runs.

Another scoreless outing for the Blossom offense in the top of the fourth inning with Southern Arkansas extending their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth with Estill being relieved by Kyann Woods.

Woods would pitch for 1.1 innings, being relieved after the fifth inning. In that inning Southern Arkansas added a run to extend their lead to 5-0.

Woods would be relieved by Kayla Olthouse in the bottom of the sixth inning with Southern Arkansas adding their final run of the contest to take a 6-0 lead heading into the final inning. 

In the top of the seventh inning, Grace Neal would lead off with a solo home run followed by a single by Bailey Camp and a double by Sophie Wood that scored Camp. 

Madison Gardiner would single to score Wood, but the Blossoms comeback would be halted with the final being 6-3 in favor of the Muleriders. 

Estill took the loss in the contest, finishing the season with a record of 10-9.

Grace Neal would end the inning by connecting for her team leading eighth home run of the season with Sophie Wood connecting for her 12th double of the season.

The Blossoms finish with an overall record of 24-23.
