Blossoms get series win on the road against Southern Nazarene

After snapping their six game losing streak on Wednesday, March 22, with a 6-5 win on the road in Tahlequah, Oklahoma against non conference opponent Northeastern State University, the Blossoms would drop game two of the double-header 15-3, the team would continue their road trip to Bethany, Oklahoma to face Southern Nazarene University. 

Kayla Olthouse would get the start for the Blossoms in game one, pitching 2.1 innings allowing three runs on five hits before being relieved on the mound by Sam Stephens. 

SNU would get all three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead.

The Blossoms would take the lead in the top of the fifth inning.

Hannah Holdbrook singled to score Madison Morrissey. Bailey Camp doubled to center field to score Kammie Walker and Jadyn Ferguson.

A Grace Neal single scored Holdbrook and with the bases loaded, Sophie Wood drew a walk to score Camp for the 5-3 lead.

The Blossoms added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the lead to 7-3 with SNU adding one run in the bottom of the sixth to set up the 7-4 final. 

Sam Stephens was awarded the win to improve to 4-3 on the season, pitching 4.2 innings allowing one run on three hits, striking out three. 

Holdbrook would lead the Blossoms going 4 for 4 on the day with the team getting 12 hits in the contest. 

In the first game of a double-header on Saturday, three seven inning doubles would not be enough to overcome six SNU runs as the Blossoms comeback in the top of the seventh inning would fall a run short in the 6-5 loss. 

Stephens would take the loss falling to 4-4 on the season, pitching the complete game.

As a team, the Blossoms recorded 11 hits in the contest with Maddie Pfleging and Sophie Wood leading with two hits each.

The Blossoms would send Estill Maguire to the circle to start the contest. 

SNU would get out to a one run lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning.

The Blossoms would get three runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead on scores by Kammie Walker, Camp, and Kennedy Cox gave the Blossoms a 3-1 lead.

After a scoreless fourth inning, UAM would get six runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 9-1.

The Blossoms would send Kayla Olthouse to the circle in relief of Maguire who finished the day pitching four innings allowing one run on six hits, striking out three and walking two. 

SNU would get one run in the bottom of the fifth, but Sophie Wood got the run back for the Blossoms in the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run.

SNU added a one run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 10-3 with the Blossoms adding three runs in the top of the seventh after a home run by Kammie Walker. and a double by Wood that scored Neal and Camp to extend the lead to 13-3.

SNU added two runs in the bottom of the seventh with the Blossoms taking the 13-5 win to secure the series. 

Magurie was awarded the win, improving to 5-6 on the year. 

Olthouse pitched three innings, allowing four runs on six hits, striking out one and walking two.

The Blossoms recorded 17 hits in the contest with Sophie Wood, Grace Neal, and Bailey Camp leading the way with three hits each.

With the win, the Blossoms improved to 16-14 on the season and an 8-9 Great American Conference record and is currently in the seventh position in the conference standings.

The Blossoms return to action on the road in Russellville to face Arkansas Tech, who currently sit in the fourth position in the conference standings.

Game one of the series is set to begin on Friday, March 31, with a 4 pm start time. 

The series will conclude on Saturday with a double-header beginning at 12 pm.
