Blossoms open conference play with series win over Southeastern

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Blossoms Softball opened the Great American Conference season with a series win over the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Savage Storm this past weekend at Alvy Early Softball Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Monticello. 

In Game One of a double-header on Friday, February 23, the Blossoms would fall behind 1-0 after Southeastern picked up a single run in the top of the first inning. 

Southeastern extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning, but UAM would get a run back in the bottom of the inning.

The Blossoms would get their final runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Grace Neal to tie the contest and a walkoff single by Lexie Smith to get the 3-2 win.

In Game Two of the double-header, Southeastern would come back to even the series with a 3-2 win.

The Blossoms runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two run home run by Sophie Wood.

The Blossoms returned to Alvy Early Softball Field on Saturday, February 24, for the final contest against Southeastern to conclude the first Great American Conference series of the season.

Southeastern would score a single run in the first inning but Kennedy Cox would give the Blossoms the lead on a two run homerun in the bottom of the inning. 

Southeastern got two runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead but Wood would connect for two RBI in the bottom of the inning on a single to right field.

Kammie Walker would get an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 5-3 with Cox connecting on her second home run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth to set up the 6-3 series win.

UAM returns to GAC play with a double-header on Friday, hosting Ouachita Baptist with the first game beginning at 1 pm.
