Burton and Cooper capture 3A State Doubles Tennis Championship

Drew Burton and Nate Cooper have captured the 3A State Doubles Tennis Championship, representing the Drew Central Pirates in a two-day state tournament held in Conway on October 11-12.

The duo participated in the 14 team field having defeated their first round opponents 6-3, 6-0.

The defeated their second round opponents from Tuckerman 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals to face Brayden Olsen and Walter Patton from Bergman. 

Cooper and Burton would defeat the pair from Bergman 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the finals to face Matthew New and Rhett Rabb from Central Arkansas Christion on Tuesday, October 11, defeating the duo in three sets with Burton, Cooper taking the first set 6-1, dropping the second set 2-6, and closing the match with a third set victory 6-0 to take the championship. 

Drew Central’s Wyatt Wood advanced to the state singles tournament, falling in the first round 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 and Caden Lane and Bailey Chapman also advancing to the girls state doubles tournament also falling in the first round of the tournament 6-1, 6-4.
