DCE celebrates reading

Drew Central Elementary has embarked on a special project with students. An all-school club called DCE Reads One Book, had its kick off celebration in the Earl Willis Auditorium Friday morning.

Every student will receive a copy of the same book, with the first title being, “Trouble According to Humphrey” by Betty G. Birney. The school asks that the book be read together at home oder the next few weeks.

“We are personally asking you to make time available for your family to participate in the special activity,” DCE Principal Trudy Jackson stated. “Reading aloud at home is valuable because it prepares your child to be an effective reader. With the DCE Reads One Book project, we aim to build a community of readers at our school.”

Kindergarten through fourth grade entered the auditorium Friday to music player and teachers dancing. Emcee Melanie Brotherton opened the assembly with a game. Students were given one beach ball per grade and were encouraged to keep it in the air as long as they could.

Each grade gave a presentation about their anticipation of the book.

DCE would like to thank the sponsors that helped make this project possible:
