Diamond Weevils pick up series win at home over Harding

The University of Arkansas Diamond Weevils remained in second place in the Great American Conference after a series win over the Harding University Bison in a double-header sweep on Sunday, and falling in the final contest of the series on Monday.

The originally scheduled series was pushed back from Friday and Saturday to Sunday with the final game on Monday due to the weather and field conditions.

In Game One on Sunday, it would take three innings before any runs would cross home plate with the Weevils getting the first run of the contest in the bottom of the third on a fielder’s choice that allowed Will Owens to advance to first base moving Gunner Haskins to advance to second and Noah Estrem to move to third with Estrem scoring on the play on the throw.

UAM would extend the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Chaz Poppy to left center.

Harding would get on the board in the top of the fifth inning on a solo homerun.

UAM increased their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring their first run after Camden Tanner was hit by a pitch to score Owens.

Chaz Poppy would connect in his next at bat for a Grand Slam, putting the Weevils up 8-1.

Harding would get a run back in the top of the sixth with UAM scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a double by Tanner. 

Poppy would single in has next at bat to score Tanner to give the Weevils a a 10-2 lead with Chase Cripps standing on second and Poppy on first with Brodie Romero coming to the plate.

Romero would get the Weevils their final runs of the contest, connecting on a three-run shot to give the Weevils the 13-2 win. 

Connor Irvine would improve to 3-0 on the season with the complete game victory.

The Weevils would seal the series win in Game Two of the double-header.

UAM would send Maxim Mrakovcic to the mound for six innings of work.

The Weevils would once again get on the board first in the contest in the bottom of the second inning after a double by Estrem scored Romero.

Estrem would extend the Weevil lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a solo homerun to give UAM a 2-0 lead. 

The Weevils would gain another run in the bottom of the fourth inning after a single by DeShaun Cordova scored Will Owens for a 3-0 lead.

Harding would pick up their only run of the contest in the top of the seventh inning.

UAM would bring in Kyle Roop in the seventh inning to pick up his second save of the season. 

Mrakovcic would pitch six innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out seven with three walks.

Roop would pitch the single inning allowing no runs on one hit while striking out one. 

The Weevils would return for the final game of the series on Monday, March 11.

UAM would get two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a pair of doubles by Romero and Chase Cripps.

Harding would score the next seven runs getting two runs in the top of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings with a single run in the seventh for a 7-2 lead.

UAm would score a run in the bottom of the seventh and ninth with Harding adding a run in the top of the eighth on a solo homerun.

Harding would take Game Three, 8-4.

UAM will return to action on Friday with a single game and on Saturday with a double-header at Oklahoma Baptist.
