Dorothy Lee (Mitchell) Jones was born December 13, 1948, in Seattle, Wash. to the late Horace Mitchell, Sr. and Ola Mae Williams. She departed this life Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at her home in Wilmar.
She was a retired florist owner and caregiver. Dorothy was a member of the House of Refuge Baptist Church in Seattle, Wash. where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a travel enthusiast and loved to read.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her youngest son, Chaun Marcellus Mitchell; and a sister, Sheryl Colvin.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories her husband, William Bruce Jones of Wilmar; her eldest son, James Eugene (Jimmy) Steward (Shawndray) of Atlanta, Ga.; step-son, William Bruce Jones, Jr.; two step-daughters, Menekio Phillips (Derick) and Yakema Jones; granddaughters, Nia and Jayla Steward; brothers, Horace Mitchell, Jr. (Dorothy), Willie Mitchell and Dale Mitchell of Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Linda Mitchell of Seattle, Wash. and Evelyn Enigbokan (Tunde) of Plano, Texas; uncle, Bobby Mitchell of Seattle, Wash.; aunt, Linda Walker of Seattle, Wash.; step-grandson, Rashaad Phillips; step-granddaughter, Kalaya Jones; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
There was a wake from 5-7 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2023, at Shady Grove AME Church in Wilmar. Funeral services will be held in Seattle, Wash., and will be announced at a later time.
