East Central sweeps Blossoms in regular season final series

The University of Arkansas at Monticello completed their regular season schedule at Alvy Early Softball Field this past weekend hosting the East Central Lady Tigers in a three game series.

Celebrating Senior Day on Friday, April 28, the Blossoms and Lady Tigers would get in a double-header to begin the series.

In game one, East Central would get a 4-0 lead after scoring one run in the top of the first and three runs in the top of the second inning. 

The Blossoms would get on the board in the bottom of the second inning on a Bailey Camp home run to cut the lead to 4-1. 

UAM cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning on a single by Kennedy Cox that scored Adrianna Erichsen.

East Central extended the lead to 6-2 after adding two runs in the top of the fourth inning, but the Blossoms would get those runs back in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run by Sophie Wood. 

East Central added a run in the top of the fifth with UAM cutting the 7-6 in the bottom of the inning on a pair of home runs by Hannah Holdbrook and Kennedy Cox. 

East Central would add to more runs in the contest to take the opening contest 9-6.

In game two, East Central would get a run in the top of the first followed by a two run inning by the Blossoms after Camp singled to score Grace Neal and Cox for a 2-1 lead.

East Central would tie the contest in the top of second and would take the lead in the top of the fifth with a single run inning to take a 3-2 lead. 

The Blossoms retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth after a single by Holdbrrok scored Erichsen and a double by Cox scored Holdbrook for a 4-3 lead. 

UAM extended the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single by Wood that scored Camp but East Central came back in the top of the seventh to score four runs to take the 7-5 win. 

Returning for the final game of the series on Saturday, April 29, the Blossoms would break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning when Maddie Pfleging singled to right field to score Camp for a 1-0 advantage, 

The Blossoms extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo home run by Lexi Smith and added a third run for a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a score by Jadyn Ferguson.

East Central would get four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead and would hold the Blossoms scoreless in the bottom of the inning to take the series sweep.

The Blossoms will now enter the Great American Conference Tournament on Thursday, May 4, in Bentonville, Arkansas. 

The Blossoms will be the sixth seed and will face the third seed, Southern Arkansas, at 6 pm in the single elimination tournament.

In the regular season Southern Arkansas won all three meetings with the Blossoms by the scores of 5-1, 9-2, and 10-4 in the three game season series.
