The Drew Central Pirates continued 6-3A Conference play on Friday night, hosting one of the top two opponents in the conference, the Fordyce Redbugs.

The Pirates came into the contest having dropped their conference opener at Camden Harmony Grove the previous week.

Fordyce would get on the board first on their third series of the contest on a 47-yard pass for a touchdown and an extra point for a 7-0 lead.

The first half of play was all Redbugs for the majority of the half.

Fordyce forced Drew Central to punt before scoring with 21 seconds remaining in the quarter on a 28-yard touchdown run and extra point for a 14-0 lead.

The Redbugs extended the lead to 21-0 with 9:25 remaining in the half before adding two more scores to take a 33-0 lead with 5:13 left in the half.

The Pirates would get on the board at the end of the half.

Tre’Bennett Fuller would run the ball from the Pirate 28 to the Fordyce 47 but a personal foul would bring the ball back to their own 20.

After several ball advancements and setbacks, Fuller would connect with Brent Hornaday on a 67-yard touchdown pass.

Jayden Jones added the two point conversion to make the score 33-8 as the half ended.

Fordyce added another touchdown in the third quarter followed by a final score at the beginning of the fourth quarter to give the Redbugs a 47-8 lead and enforce the Sportsmanship Rule with a running clock.

The Pirates would get the final score of the contest after a kickoff return from the Pirate 27 by Hornaday, advancing the ball to the Fordyce 30. An added personal foul call advanced the ball to the 15.

After advancing the ball to the Fordyce five, the Pirates would begin to go the opposite direction before a pass interference call brought the ball to the 10.

Jase Watt would connect with Zae Bullard for the final score of the contest to make the final score 47-14.

The Pirates will return to conference play on Friday, October 6, traveling to Lake Village to face the Beavers with a 7 pm kickoff scheduled.
