Hit and Run on North Conley Street

According to the Monticello Chief of Police, Carlos Garcia, the Monticello Police Department dispatch received a call around 9:26 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, of a hit and run. A couple was walking home from work on North Conley Street  and were hit by a vehicle that fled the scene. 

The female that was hit was transported to the Monticello Airport by ambulance, waiting to be transported by air, but succumbed to her injuries.

Within two hours, the Monticello police officers, assisted by Drew County Sheriff's deputies, located the vehicle of interest. The suspect arrested in connection with this incident was Laron White, 34, of Monticello.

White was charged with Improper Backing, Improper Lane Usage, Accident Involving Death or Personal Injuries, DWI, DWI Refusal, Disorderly Conduct, Possession of Open Container, and Negligent Homicide.

White is in jail awaiting his first appearance. This case is still under investigation.
