Jr. Pirates fall at home to Bearden 41-0, Pirates open season with 28-14 win at Bearden

The Drew Central Pirates and Junior Pirates got the 2023 season underway this past week with the Junior Pirates hosting the Junior Bears of Bearden at Mike Pennington Stadium on Thursday night and the Drew Central Pirates traveling to Bearden to face the Bears on Friday, August 25.

Marco Ambrocio got things started, kicking the ball off to Bearden to begin the contest. 

Bearden’s first offensive possession would end in a turnover after the Junior Pirates would force a fumble that was recovered by  Jordan Smith.

The Junior Pirates could not get anything going offensively and would turn the ball over on downs at the Bearden 28-yard line with 3:09 remaining in the first quarter. 

Bearden’s next possession would result in the first score of the contest after a 61-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion would be successful as Bearden took an 8-0 lead.

Bearden would regain possession on a fumble and would increase the lead to 14-0 with 6:05 remaining in the half.

After two more touchdowns, Bearden would take a 27-0 lead at the half.

The Junior Bears would go on to score two touchdowns in the third quarter to place the contest under the sportsmanship rule for the fourth quarter.

Bearden went on to win by a score of 41-0. 

The Junior Pirates will travel to Mayflower on Thursday, August 31, with the Seventh Grade contest to begin at 5:30 pm and the Junior Pirates at 7 pm.

For the Pirates, Drew Central travelled to Bearden to defeat the Bears by a score of 28-0 with Tre’Bennett Fuller producing 283 yards of offense with four touchdowns. Two rushing and two passing. 

The Pirates will return home this Friday to host Mayflower.
