Junior Pirates fall in AAA Benefit Scrimmage to Dumas 14-0

The Drew Central Junior Pirates took to the field for the first time in 2023 in the annual AAA Benefit Scrimmage Game held at Mike Pennington Stadium on the newly turfed football field on Thursday, August 17, facing the Junior Bobcats from Dumas.

Dumas would receive the ball first on their own 30-yard line to begin the scrimmage contest.

For the scrimmage games there are not any kickoffs to begin the contests with the ball being placed on the 30 yard line.

Dumas did not waste much time before reaching the end zone for the first score of the contest.

For the Junior Pirates, it would take a few series to start to move the ball down the field.

Quarterback Brailin Moore looked for targets downfield such as Jonathon Taylor, Dakota Bostian, and Jayden Turnage as well as being able to gain positive yards on the ground.

The Junior Pirates will look to not only run the ball with Moore, but will also utilize Jace Cruce as their go-to back on running plays, but could also use their receivers and Cam Sanders if needed.

Sanders would get some carries at the end of the scrimmage contest on Thursday night.

The Junior Pirate offense were held scoreless in the scrimmage contest but was able to move the ball at time with the drives just stalling out.

Defensively the Junior Pirates allowed two Junior Bobcat touchdowns in the contest.

Junior Pirate players, Jaden Davis, Kabrien Collins, Steele Strickland, and Easton Ashcraft were just a few of the Junior Pirates defensive players that record tackles against Dumas on Thursday.

Despite giving up two scores in the contest, the Junior Pirate defense was able to settle into their gameplan to create several turnover on downs and punting situations against Dumas.

The Junior Pirates are scheduled to begin the regular season this Thursday at home against the Bearden Junior Bears.

The seventh grade game has been cancelled with the junior to begin at 8 pm.
