Keep Arkansas Beautiful visited Monticello and Drew Central Elementary Schools last week and brought Otto the Otter to visit with kids, hand out coloring books and talk to them about keeping Monticello clean.
Mayor Akers is encouraging a city wide clean up on Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25.
On Friday, city employees will pick up litter and trash in town and any institution wanting to help on Saturday can contact City Hall to arrange a time to obtain clean up materials furnished by Keep Arkansas Beautiful.
Several churches have already volunteered to help on the Saturday, including Morning Star Missionary Baptist, Church of Christ, The Revival Center and Emmanuel Baptist.
Also, in an effort to beautify Monticello, Akers has acquired the help of inmates with the Arkansas Department of Corrections to clean sidewalks and gutters. The crews worked in various locations, including Gabbert Street on Tuesday, March 14.
