Lady Pirates defeat Crossett, fall to DeWitt in final game of season

The Drew Central Lady Pirates recorded one of their best wins of the season with a come from behind victory on the road in Crossett over the Lady Eagles who finished their season placing fifth in their conference, the 4A-8.

Against Crossett, the Lady Pirates would allow three runs in the top of the first inning, but would come back to score six in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-3 lead.

Bailey Chapman would lead off with a single followed by a single by Kynnlee Graves that advanced Chapman to second.

Amari Lucas hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped to score Chapman and Graves with Lucas advancing to second.

After the first out of the inning, Ali Jo Cruce would double to score Lucas to tie the contest 3-3. 

After the second out, Mallory Jackson reached on a single to score Cruce followed by Aalanah Jones being hit by a pitch and a walk to Caden Lane with Jackson scoring on a passed ball to give the Lady Pirates the 6-3 lead.

Crossett would tie the contest, 6-6, in the top of the second inning after scoring three runs in the inning.

After getting the Lady Pirates out in order in the bottom of the second, Crossett would retake the lead in the top of the third inning adding four runs for a 10-6 lead. 

The Lady Pirates would go down in order in the bottom of the third with Crossett adding a run in the top of the fourth for an 11-6 lead. 

Drew Central added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning after Lucas reached on an error and consecutive singles by Zoe Johnson and Cruce to cut the lead to 11-8.

Crossett added another run in the top of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 12-8.

In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Pirates would start the inning by grounding out to the pitcher before Lane connected for a single followed by a single by Chapman and a double by Graves to score Chapman and Lane to cut the lead to 12-10.

Amari Lucas tied the contest with the next at bat, connecting on a two-run home run.

Johnson would hit a single followed by the second out of the inning before Emma McRae would hit a single to score Johnson for the 13-12 lead.

Crossett would have two runners in the top of the seventh but would not be able to get a run as the Lady Pirates held on to the 13-12 win.

Returning home for their final conference and regular season contest, the Lady Pirates would host DeWitt.

The Lady Dragons would get two runs in the top of the first inning and would be held scoreless by Drew Central pitcher Emma McRae and the Lady Pirate defense for the next two innings before the Lady Dragons scored seven runs in the top of the fourth inning and two runs in the top of the fifth to set up the run-rule victory after the Lady Pirates were held scoreless in the bottom of the fifth by a score of 11-0.

With the loss the Lady Pirates season comes to an end with a 6-9 overall record and a 3A-8 Conference record of 5-9.

The Lady Pirates finished sixth in the conference standings behind fifth place McGehee, two games behind fourth place Harmony Grove.
