Lady Pirates defeat Harmony Grove to open 8-3A Conference play

The Drew Central Lady Pirates improved to 2-0 on the season after opening 8-3A Conference play on Tuesday night at Drew central against the Harmony Grove Lady Hornets. 

The Lady Pirates opened the 2024 season on Thursday, March 7, with a 12-4 win over the Fordyce Lady Redbugs with a 12-4 win recording 12 hits.

The Lady Pirates took the field on Monday to open conference play with Emma McRae taking the circle.

McRae recorded 10 strikeouts in the Lady Pirates contest against Fordyce.

Harmony Grove would take a 1-0 lead after scoring a single run in the top of the first inning, but Drew Central would tie the contest after a single by Presley Withers scored McKinzie McCraw.

Caroline McRae would double in the bottom of the third to score Bailey Chapman.

Caroline McRae would score in the inning on an error to give the Lady Pirates a 3-1 lead.

Harmony Grove would get two runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the contest 3-3.

In the bottom of the fifth, a triple by Adyson Kulbeth would score Amari Lucas followed by a fly out by Withers that scored Kulbeth to give the Lady Pirates the 5-3 lead. 

The Lady Pirates would not allow another run over the next two innings to take the 5-3 win.

 Emma McRae would pitch six innings for the Lady Pirates, allowing three runs on two hits, walking four, and striking out 10.

Adyson Kulbeth came in to relieve McRae in the seventh inning, striking out one batter. 

Drew Central recorded nine hits in the contest with Bailey Chapman and Caroline McRae each having two. 

Amari Lucas, Emma McRae, Adyson Kulbeth, Presley Withers, and Peyton Withers each recorded one hit each.

The 5-3 win marks the first win against Harmony Grove since the 2020-21 season when the Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Hornets 5-0. 

The Lady Pirates will travel to Dumas on Thursday night with a5 pm first pitch and will travel to Smackover on Friday for a makeup game against the Lady Buckaroos at 4:30 pm before entering Spring Break Week.
