Lady Pirates improve to 2-3 on the season with pair of conference wins

The Drew Central Lady Pirates picked up their first win of the 2023 season before the start of the Spring Break period with a 21-0, run-rule win over the Dollarway Lady Cardinals on March 14.

Emma McCrae would get the start for the Lady Pirates against Dollarway and would allow one baserunner in the first inning on a walk, but McCrae was able to get three strikeouts in the innings. 

Dollarway would begin the bottom of the first inning with four walks to give the Lady Pirates a 3-0 lead after Bailey Chapman, Amari Lucas, and Zoe Johnson  scored on a wild pitch.

After a double-play for two outs, McCrae would triple followed by Aalanah Jones being hit by a pitch.

Kennedee Love and Caden Lane drew walks with McCrae and Love scoring.

Chapman would triple to score Lane and would also score on an error.

Amari Lucas and Johnson walked followed by a triple by Ali Jo Cruce to score Lucas and Johnson.

Mallory Jackson walked followed by a double by McCrae that scored Jackson. McCrae would score on a passed ball and Johnson would draw a walk.

The Lady Pirates would score 13 runs in the inning to take a 13-0 lead.

McCrae would hit the first batter in the top of the second, but struck out the next three to end the inning. 

In the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Pirates would get eight runs to take a 21-0 lead to force the run-rule game after the third inning of play.

McRae would pitch two innings with six strikeouts and a walk.

Kynnlee Graves would relieve McCrae for the final inning allowing one hit and striking out two. 

McCrae would lead the way at the plate with two hits in the contest. 

The Lady Pirates would fall in their final game before Spring Break period with a 13-6 loss to the Lady Bobcats. 

Dumas would get out to a 4-0 lead with Drew Central tying the contest in the bottom of the second but Dumas would get runs in every inning to take the win. 

Returning from Spring Break, the Lady Pirates would continue play in conference, traveling to McGehee to face the Lady Owls on Tuesday, March 28.

Drew Central would start the game with two consecutive strikeouts, but a walk to Zoe Johnson gave the Lady Pirates a base runner followed by a single that would score Johnson for a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

McGehee got a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at one.

Leading 6-3 entering the top of the fourth inning, Graves would hit an inside the park home run, followed by a homer to center field by Zoe Johnson for a 9-3 advantage. 

Drew Central would go on to score two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and seven in the seventh to take a 19-6 win for their second win of the season and in conference play. 

McRae would pitch the complete game allowing six runs on seven hits. walking three and striking out eight.

The Lady Pirates will return home to host Lakeside in conference play on Friday, March 31, with a 4:30 pm start.
