Lady Pirates improve to 5-1 overall with 41-34 win over CAC

The Drew Central Lady Pirates improved to 5-1 overall with two wins at the annual Mini State Classic held at Drew Central this past weekend.

On Friday, the Lady Pirates would get 25 points from Amari Lucas to defeat Alpena 52-50.

Returning to action on Saturday night to face Central Arkansas Christian, the Lady Pirates would go down 4-0 to start the contest before cutting the lead to 4-3 after a two by Amari Lucas and a free throw by Sayveiona Durden. 

CAC would score the next five points with Chloe Anderson scoring the final Drew Central points with two seconds left in the quarter to cut the Lady Mustang lead to 9-5.

Kassidie Gilbert got the Lady Pirates on the board first in the second quarter to cut the CAC lead to 9-7.

CAC went on a 6-0 run to increase their lead to 15-7.

The Lady Pirates would get a three from Kalyiah Miller with 2:11 remaining in the quarter and got their final points of the quarter on a two by Durden to cut the lead to three points with CAC maintaining a 15-12 lead at the half.

The Lady Pirate defense would hold CAC to four points in the third quarter with the Lady Pirates 17 points in the quarter including two consecutive three pointers by Durden to at the end the quarter to give Drew Central a 29-19 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

CAC would outscore Drew Central in the fourth quarter 15-12 but it was not enough to overcome the Lady Pirate lead as Drew Central went on to defeat the Lady Mustangs 41-34.

Sayveiona Durden led the way with 15 points followed by Amari Lucas with seven and Bailey Chapman with 6.

Kazyria Gibson and Chloe Anderson scored four, Kalyiah Miller with three and Kassidie Gilbert with two.
