Lyle throws second no-hitter of season in perfect game at Hamburg

After dropping their first game of the season to Stuttgart in an extra innings contest, the Monticello Lady Billies have got back on track, winning five consecutive contests including a perfect game by Alaina Lyle.

Traveling to Star City on Tuesday, April 11, the Lady Bulldogs would get the first run of the contest in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.

Monticello would tie the contest in the top of the third inning after loading the bases on a pair of singles by Kate Morgan and Addi Frazer followed by a walk to Lyle.

Audrey Howard would single to score Morgan to tie the contest.

Star City retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after scoring two runs to take a 3-1 lead heading into the top of the seventh. 

In the top of the seventh, Frazer would lead off with a single and after the first out of the inning, Howard would tie the contest at three on a two-run home run to center field.

After a scoreless bottom half of the inning, the contest would head to extra innings. 

Monticello took the lead in the top of the eighth inning on a single by Ashlynn Snow to score Anna Morgan for the go ahead score. 

Star City added a run in the bottom half of the inning to push the contest to the ninth inning.

With Kate Morgan on second base to begin the ninth, Lyle would connect for a home run to give the Lady Billies a 6-4 lead followed by a Aubrey Howards second homer of the day to extend the lead to 7-4.

Monticello would allow two runs in the bottom half of the ninth, holding on for the 7-5 victory.

Returning home on Thursday, April 13, for a conference make-up game against the Warren Lady Jacks, Ashlynn Snow would get the call to enter the circle for the Lady Billies.

A scoreless contest for two and a half innings, the Lady Billies would get on the board in the bottom of the third inning.

Kate Morgan would lead off by reaching first on an error followed by the first out of the inning on a fly ball.

Morgan would score on a wild pitch and Lyle would reach on an error and advance to second base.

Howard would connect for a single to score Lyle for a 2-0 lead.

Warren came back to tie the contest, 2-2, in the top of the fourth inning a triple and sacrifice fly.

Monticello’s bats came to life in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Madeline Stanley would lead off with a double followed by Meygan Bivens reaching on an error and Stanley advancing to third. 

Stanley would score on a passed ball with Skylar Burns drawing a walk. 

Kate Morgan would load the bases after reaching on an error followed by a single that would score Burns to make the score 4-2.

Lyle would connect for a three-run home run to extend the Lady Billie lead to 7-2.

After the second out of the inning was recorded, the Lady Billies would get back to back to back home runs by Kiley Lane, Anna Morgan, and Madeline Stanley to extend the lead to 10-2.

Bivens would draw a walk followed  by a single by Burns. 

Kate Morgan would reach on an error that scored Annika Nichols and Bivens to set up the final score of 12-2.

Ashlynn Snow would pitch the complete game allowing two runs on one hit.

Traveling to Hamburg to face the Lady Lions on Friday, April 14, the Lady Billies got a fast start from the plate with a lead off double by Kate Morgan, a single by Addi Frazer, a double by Lyle that scored Morgan and Frazer.

Howard connected for a single followed by Lane reaching on an error that scored courtesy runner Kynslee Baker.

Anna Morgan would also reach on an error that advanced Howard to third and Lane to second.

Stanley hit a sacrifice fly that scored Howard for 4-0 lead. 

Alaina Lyle would sit the Lady Lions down in order in the bottom of the inning, striking out all three batters. 

Snow led off the top of the second inning with a single and would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kate Morgan.

Frazer reached on an error that scored Snow for a 5-0 lead.

Lyle singled to put runners on the corners followed by a double by Howard that scored Frazer and Baker.

Lane singled in the next at bat followed by a sacrifice bunt that scored Howard to extend the Lady Billie lead to 8-0.

Lyle would get Hamburg out in order with a line out, a strikeout, and a ground out.

Monticello added a run in the top of the third inning after a single by Lyle scored Snow for a 9-0 advantage.

Another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the third with Lyle getting two ground outs and a strikeout.

Madeline extended the Lady Billie lead to 10-0 in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run to left field. 

The 10-0 score would be the final score of the contest. 

Lyle would face 15 batters on the day recording 15 outs, pitching a complete game no-hitter for the second time this season, sealing a perfect game while striking out six batters. 

The Lady Billies faced non conference opponent, the Fordyce Lady Red Bugs, on Monday night with Lyle getting the call to pitch.

Monticello would get a run in the first, four in the third, two in the fifth, and two in the sixth for the 9-0 win.

Returning to conference play on Tuesday night, the Lady Billies had little trouble with Watson Chapel in a 28-1 victory.

Monticello is now 17-1 on the season and are 9-1 in conference play with a .5 game lead over Stuttgart for the Conference Championship with two conference games remaining hosting Crossett on Friday, April 21, and traveling to Stuttgart on Thursday, April 27.

The Lady Billies will face Dumas on Wednesday at 5pm and Woodlawn on Monday.
