Martha Lou Lindsey, 91

Posted

Martha Lou Lindsey, 91, of Florence, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, October 16, 2023, at her home. She was born March 3, 1932, in Monticello to the late Arthur Shultz and Dot Breedlove Shultz.
She was the widow of Rev. Jake Lindsey, a retired school teacher, homemaker and member of Florence Baptist Church. Martha was an avid gardener of both food and flowers, but also bugs. For many years, she enjoyed collecting and preserving all kinds of bugs year-round to help kids with their school bug project each year.
She was also known for home made pickles, jellies, beans, and everything else that she canned and put up to eat on all year round. She loved cooking for anyone and everyone, and share her recipes, which like most of her generation, were simply from memory. Everyone loved something, if not everything, that she cooked, but in typical ''Aunt Bee'' fashion, she couldn't help but to fish for the compliments, just to make sure.
Her niece, Glenda Howard, helped her create her own cookbook, which a countless number of people now have, to help keep her family's recipes alive. Her home place in Florence was the place for gathering, as it was with her mother before her, and she opened her home and her arms to everyone. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Shultz; and a sister, Mildred Story.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Lindsey (Tracy); two grandsons, Payden and C.J. Lindsey; a sister, Ouida Gilbert all of Florence; along with host of other family members and those she considered family.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2023, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chris Albritton officiating. Burial was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. There was a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
