MPD mourns loss of Cezar

According to Monticello Chief Carlos Garcia, the Monticello Police Department is mourning the passing of the police department's K9, Cezar, after an unfortunate incident that injured Cezar during the recent storm this past Tuesday.

Cezar performed his duties as the Police Department's K-9 unit for several years, apprehending suspects wanted for offenses ranging from kidnapping to drug offenses. He was trained in narcotics detection as well as tracking. He was a nationally certified K9, and was the recipient of multiple grants for K9 equipment and training.

He was a member of the Monticello Police Department and will be sorely missed by those he protected.

B&S Monuments is donating a headstone for Cezar. The Advance Monticellonian located at 314 N. Main St. is a drop-off point for donations. All donations will benefit Warrior Dog Foundation, which takes military and police dogs and reconditions them to live a "civilian" life after their time of service has ended. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
