Pirates comeback in second half to down Star City Bulldogs 61-55

The Drew Central Pirates came back from their Friday night loss to Central Arkansas Christian, 64-49, to record a second half comeback over the Star City Bulldogs Saturday night in the final game of the Mini State Classic held at the Drew Central Gymnasium. 

Star City would win the opening tip and would score the first six points of the contest.

Tre’Bennett Fuller would get the Pirates on the board at the 5:42 mark after scoring on a layup and drawing a foul.

After connecting on his free throw, the Pirates trailed 6-3.

The Pirates went on to score the next six points to cap off a 9-0 run, taking 9-6 lead with 2:14 remaining in the quarter. 

Star City would go on a 7-0 run before Drew Central could get their next two points to take a 13-11 advantage at the end of the first half of play.

Star City would begin the second quarter of action on a three-pointer by Darius Redix, who led the Bulldogs in scoring on the night with 20 points.

Zae Bullard got the first points of the quarter for the Pirates on a pair of free throws but Star City would increase their lead to nine points, 26-17, with 2:48 remaining in the half. 

Star City continued to maintain their lead, closing the half by outscoring the Pirates 21-15 in the quarter to take a 34-26 lead at the half.

Drew Central would come back to ttie the contest at 44 by the end of the third quarter, out scoring the Bulldogs 18-10 in the quarter.

Drew Central would complete the comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring Star City 17-11 in the final quarter to take the 61-55 win to move to 5-2 on the season. 

Tre’Bennett Fuller led the Pirates in scoring with 17 followed by Zae Bullard with 10.

Drew Burton and Jeremiah Bodiford added nine each with Alex Preddy scoring eight and Blake Chandler with seven. 

Dameon Harris rounded out the scoring with one point.

The Pirates will travel to Pea Ridge to participate in the Pea Ridge Tournament that will be played December 7-9.
