Pirates improve to 4-2 in 8-3A Conference play with win over Lakeside

The Drew Central Pirates improved to 4-2 in 8-3A Conference play with a three inning, 17-2, win over the Lakeside Beavers on Thursday night at Drew Central. 

Nate Cooper started the contest on the mound for the Pirates, pitching the complete three inning game, allowing two runs on two hits with zero walks and two strikeouts.

After a scoreless top of the first inning for the Beavers, Drew Central would get on the board first on the second pitch of the bottom half of the inning that Cooper would send over the left field fence for a solo home run.

Ja’Corrian Love would reach on an error followed by a walk to Drew Burton. Jase Watt singled to right to score Love. Will Watson would reach on an error with Burton scoring for the third run of the inning. 

Tyler Grant doubled to score Watt and Watson for a 5-0 lead.

Tyler Hornaday would single and advance to second on an error with Grant scoring. 

Jacob Jones singled to score Hornaday. Jones advanced to third on wild pitches and would score on a passed ball as Dayton England drew a walk.

Cooper would walk followed by a single by Love that allowed Cooper to score on an error and a score by England.

The Pirates would score two more runs in the inning to take a 12-0 lead. 

After a scoreless second inning, Lakeside would get two runs back in the top of the third inning on a double that scored both runs. 

The Pirates would come back in the bottom of the inning to force the run-rule game after scoring five runs for a 17-2 win.

The Pirates are currently third in the conference and will play two road conference games this week before hosting conference leading Camden Harmony Grove on Tuesday, April 11, at 4:30 pm.
