Red Hawk (aka Robert Moore) was named the 2023 winner of the Bitter Oleander Poetry Book Prize. Sponsored by Bitter Oleander Press, the annual prize carries a cash award and book publication. His book was selected from more than 350 entries. The central concern of this competition is to find and publish poetry books which are “…more integrated in the natural world…a language that helps define the same particulars in nature that exist in each of us….” Red Hawk’s book, Book of Lamentations, will be published in January, 2024. It may be ordered at www.bitteroleander.com. The cost is $21 which includes postage. The judge of this year’s competition said, “This is an important book. Work like this is especially important now when it’s easy to lose track of the Earth amidst so much strife.” Love of the Earth as a core spiritual practice has always been one of Red Hawk’s central themes; others include non-judgmental love, aging as a spiritual practice, and the Conscious growth of the Soul via the awakening of Conscience.

Red Hawk is the author of 10 other books of poetry and two books on the spiritual practice of self remembering and self observation (www.hohmpress.com). He may be reached at www.moorer@uamont.edu
