Southeastern Savage Storm rumbles past UAM Boll Weevils 48-20

Needing a win to keep their post season goals intact, the University of Arkansas Boll Weevil looked to calm the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State University at Convoy Leslie Cotton Bowl Stadium on Saturday, October 29.

Having to play without their starting quarterback, Demilon Brown and running back, Jonero Scott, the Weevils would start junior quarterback Edwin Kleinpeter Jr. and would use several runners with Dorian Manuel and Hayden Thomas getting the majority of the carries. 

After punting the ball on their first possession, UAM would regain possession after an interception by Greg Hooks gave the Weevils the ball at the Southeastern 43.

Manuel would gain down to the 21-yard line on three carries with Thomas adding the 21 for the score for the UAM touchdown. 

Zachary Gisotti added the extra point for the 7-0 lead. 

South Eastern would even the score, 7-7, with 3:05 remaining in the first quarter, 

UAM would be forced to punt on their next drive, but the Grisotti punt would be blocked by Southeastern at the UAm 10 and returned for a touchdown, regaining the lead 14-7 after the extra point. 

Southeastern would score two more touchdowns before the end of the half with the first coming on a 35-yard pass with 11:47 remaining in the half and the next score on an 18-yard pass and extra point with 15 seconds remaining to take a 28-7 lead at the half. 

Southeastern would extend the lead to 35-7 on the first drive of the second half after an eight-yard run and extra point.

Southeastern added one more score in the third quarter to go up 41-7. 

UAM would get the final score of the third quarter after a 31-yard pass from Kleinpeter to Jordan Mansfield. Grisotti added the extra point to cut the advantage to 41-14. 

Southeastern and UAM would add one score apiece in the contest to set up the 48-20 final score. 

With the loss, the Weevils fall to 3-6 on the season and will guarantee the third consecutive losing season for the Weevils.

UAM will travel to Ada, Oklahoma on Saturday, November 5, to face East Central.

The Tigers are currently 6-3 on the season. 

East Central and UAM will kickoff at 2 PM.

EDWIN KLEINPETER (0) started his first game of the season agaisnt Southeastern Oklahoma. Kleinpeter came into the previous contest against Harding after an injury to Demilon Brown.

GREG HOOKS (2) defends a pass in the end zone. Hooks got the first turnover of the contest after he intercepted a pass to stop the Savage Storm’s forst drive of the contest.

HAYDEN THOMAS (21) third rushing touchdown of the season and added his first receiving touchdown of the season against Southeastern.
