Spring school sports regular season nearing completion

With the 2024 Spring High School Sports regular season schedule in its final week, the city of Monticello has the chance to see every team sport from both Monticello and Drew Central to make a postseason tournament.

Starting with baseball, the Monticello Billies have one final conference contest remaining against Stuttgart on Thursday and should finish third in the final conference rankings heading into the 4A South Regional.

The Drew Central Pirates are currently in the fourth spot in the 8-3A and will face the second place team in the conference on Friday, April 26, the DeWitt Dragons at DeWitt.

The Pirates defeated the Dragons back on April 2 by a score of 4-1 at Drew Central.

For the Lady Pirates, the team will also travel to DeWitt to face the Lady Dragons.

DeWitt sits on top of the conference at 11-0 and defeated Drew Central 12-2 on April 2.

The Lady Pirates are currently third in the conference standings and should qualify for regional play as either the third or fourth seed.

Both Monticello Soccer programs have a shot at postseason play.

For the Billies there are certain things that need to take place such as a win over Warren, but they still have an outside shot at the State Tournament.

For the Lady Billies, if the team defeats Warren or Hamburg they should qualify for the tournament. If the Lady Billies defeat both Warren and Hamburg, the team could see a second place conference finish..

Monticello hosts Warren Thursday at Hyatt Field at 5 pm.
