Weevils get first conference win with victory over Harding

The University of Arkansas at Monticello have won two consecutive contests with the first win of the week coming against non conference opponent, Langston University, on Monday, December 4, at Steelman Fieldhouse.

Against Langston, the Lions would score first in the contest, but Zae Wiggins would give the Weevils the lead on a three-pointer and with the exception of one lead change and a couple of points when the scored was tied, the Weevils would lead for the majority of the half, taking a three point, 34-31, lead at the half.

The Weevils would lead throughout the second half with their biggest lead coming off a Zane Nelson layup to give UAM an 11 point lead with 5:51 remaining in the contest. 

Langston would come back to cut the lead to three points with UAM taking the victory, 67-64.

The Weevils would have two  players in double-digits with Issac Jackson leading the way with 29 points followed by Zane Nelson with 15. 

Zae Wiggins added six, Cole Anderson with five, and Josh Denton with four.

AK Hazely, Alex Brogdon, Timur Krupalija, and Mario Fantina all scored two points. 

The Weevils would return to action on Saturday, December 9, in the UAM Jingle Jam at Steelman Fieldhouse, hosting Great American Conference opponent Harding University. 

Harding came into Saturday’s contest undefeated in GAC play with a 2-0 record with UAM having lost both of their GAC contests this season. 

Cole Anderson would get the Weevils on the board to start the contest on a layup.

Harding would hold the lead for the majority of the first half but a layup by Zane Nelson would give the Weevils the lead with 47 seconds remaining in the half and Issac Jackson would increase the Weevil lead to 44-41 at the half. 

Neither team could increase the lead beyond single-digits throughout the second half with UAM taking the lead for the final time with 59 seconds remaining in the contest and would go on to take the contest 81-77.

Issac Jackson led the Weevils with 23 points followed by Zane Nelson with 21.

Josh Denton added 13 with Zae Wiggins adding seven.

Cole Anderson, Alex Brogdon, and Mario Fantina scored five with Wesley Booker rounding out the scoring with two points.
