Weevils’ losing streak grows to seven games after 28-7 loss at Oklahoma Baptist

The 2023 UAM Weevil football season continued on a downward spiral after a 28-7 loss on the road in Shawnee, Oklahoma to the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison on Saturday, October 28.

Plagued with injuries, the Weevils would turn to two quarterbacks that were probably not on the radar for playing time this season.

Cade Middleton, a freshman from Cedar Creek High School in Ruston, La., would complete 4 of 5 passes for a total of eight yards while being sacked once.

Austin Wadsworth was not even listed as having a number at the start of the season is a freshman form Pearl River High School in Pearl River, La, was 3 of 5 for 15 yards while being sacked twice.

Things were not much better out of the backfield for the Weevils with their leading rusher being Gary Ferman with a season high in rushing yards with 85.

Glen Cage would also record a season high in rushing yards with 55.

Offensively, one of the bright spots for the Weevils this season has been Stuttgart native Arlie Lee, who scored the only Weevil touchdown on the day.

Lee has recorded seven touchdowns this season, one receiving and six rushing.

Lee usually gets his carries out of the wildcat formation and has recorded 303 receiving yards (3rd overall), 57 rushing yards, and 50 yards passing this season along with 269 kickoff return yards.

Oklahoma Baptist world record one touchdown in the first quarter, two in the second, and one in the third with UAM’s only score coming on a two-yard run by Lee and an extra point by Zachary Grisotti.

Oklahoma Baptist improved to 6-3 with UAM falling to 2-7, losing their seventh consecutive contest.

With two games remaining on the schedule, the Weevils need one win to match last season's record.

UAM will play the final home game on Saturday with a 2 pm kickoff.
