Weevils set to begin 2023 season on the road on Thursday night

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils are set to kickoff the 2023 season on the road this Thursday, August 31, on the road at Northwestern Oklahoma State University to face the Rangers. 

The Weevils started the 2022 season going 3-1 in their first four games before dropping the final seven games of the season for a 3-8 record. 

Senior Quarterback Demilon Brown will return for his senior season after being sidelined for the season after an injury that happened against Harding University on October 22, 2022.

The Weevils have been picked eighth in the 2023 GAC Preseason Coaches Poll ahead of (9) Southern Nazarene, (10) Southwestern Oklahoma State University, (11) Oklahoma Baptist, and (12) Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

Ouachita Baptist sits at the top of the preseason poll followed by (2) Harding, (3) Henderson State, (4) Southern Arkansas, (5) Southeastern Oklahoma, (6) East Central, and (7) Arkansas Tech.

The Weevils wins last season came against Oklahoma Baptist, Southern Nazarene, and Arkansas Tech. 

UAM’s Opponent on Thursday won one contest last season, a 26-23 victory over the Weevils at Convoy Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium. 

Northwestern Oklahoma State University and UAM first played on October 2, 1993 with the Weevils taking a 33-21 win. 

Since the inaugural contest, the Weevils and Rangers are tied 6-6 in head to head contests.

In 2022, Brown would complete 20 of 30 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 57 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. 

Northwestern Oklahoma State and UAM will kickoff from Alva, Oklahoma on Thursday with a scheduled kickoff for 6 pm.
