Weevils split conference road games at East Central and Southeastern

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Weevils split a pair of Great American Conference games this past week on the road in Oklahoma. 

Traveling to Ada, Oklahoma on Thursday, January 11, the Weevils would face off with the Tigers of East Central University. 

UAM would lead East Central for the majority of the first half of the contest with East central tying the game on two different times in th half, but UAM would take an eight point, 32-24, lead at halftime. 

UAM would lead throughout the second half of play, extending their lead to the biggest margin of the contest at the 3:25 mark with an 18 point lead before going on to take the victory by the score of  61-44.

Leading the way for UAM was Zane Nelson with 17 followed by Issac Jackson with 16 and Timur Krupalija with a a season high 12 points.

Wesley Booker added eight points, Josh Denton with six, and Alex Brogdon rounding out the scoring with two.

Continuing the road trip on Saturday, January 13, traveling to Durant, Oklahoma to face Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

The Weevils would open the contest by going on a 9-0 run highlighted by three-pointers by Josh Denton and Wesley Booker. 

Southeastern would stop the run on a free throw.

UAM continued to lead for the remainder of the half with their biggest lead coming on a three by Issac Jackson for a 16 point lead. 

UAM led 38-31 at the break.

UAM’s lead would continue up until 13:15 remaining in the contest when Southeastern tied the contest at 47.

Both teams would go back and forth until Southeastern took the lead with 10:09 remaining in the contest. 

Southeastern would increase their lead to double-digits, going on to defeat the Weevils by 16 points, 85-69.

Zane Nelson led in scoring with 24 followed by Issac Jackson with 23.

Ty’Reonn King added seven points and Josh Denton with six.

Timur Krupalija, Wesley Booker, and Donovan Cooper rounded out the scoring with three points each.

UAM returns home on Thursday against Oklahoma Baptist at 7:30 pm and Southern Nazarene on Saturday.
