Weevils sweep Northwestern Oklahoma State

The University of Arkansas at Monticello honored their Senior Weevils this past weekend with a three-game series with the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers with a double-header on Friday and a single game on Saturday to close the series. 

In game one on Friday, the Weevils would get five home runs on the day in a 17-2 win.

Cade Thompson would put the Weevils up 1-0 in the first with a solo shot to right field.

Alex Austin connected for his first of two home runs on the day in the bottom of the second inning and would return with a grand slam in the bottom of the third to give the Weevils a 7-0 lead.

Chase Cripps would also homer in the bottom of the third to extend the Weevils lead to 9-0.

Cade Canncilla would hit the Weevils final home run on the day in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two run shot to put the Weevils up 17-1.

The Rangers would get a run in the top of the seventh to set up the 17-2 final. 

Connor Irvine was credited with the win to improve his record to 7-3 on the year.

In game two of the double-header, Northwestern would score two runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. 

UAM would get the lead in the bottom of the second after a Clay Lockett double scored Reece Reading and Canncilla.

Austin would score on a wild pitch and Lockett scored on a sacrifice fly by Cripps to take a 4-2 lead.

The Rangers tied the contest with a run in the top of the third and fifth innings, but UAM retook the lead on Austin’s third home run of the day and a double by Deshaun Cordove to score Lockett for 6-4 lead. 

NWOSU got a run in the top of the seventh to set up the 6-5 final. 

Mason Philley improved to 6-4 on the season with the win.

In the final game of the series on Saturday, UAM honored the seniors in a pregame ceremony before the Weevils completed the series sweep with a 4-1 win.

UAM is currently in fifth position in the conference with six Great American Conference games remaining on the schedule with all games being on the road.

UAM will have one final home game in a non conference contest on Tuesday, April 25, hosting Mississippi College at 3 pm.
