The biggest non conference rivalry game of the season is set to take place at Drew Central High School on Friday, December 20.
The game is between the Drew Central Pirates and the Monticello Billies and will consist of three contests with the Monticello Junior Lady Billies taking on the Drew Central Junior Lady Pirates at 5 pm.
The Monticello Lady Billies will take the court to face the Drew Central Lady Pirates following the junior girls contest and the Monticello Billies and Drew Central Pirates will close the night after the senior girls.
The Billies will look to defend the “Showdown Trophy” that they regained last season after defeating Drew Central in the best of three game series.
The Pirates have an advantage in games played on the hardwood this season with Monticello’s basketball season being delayed due to the Billies football team reaching the quarterfinals of the 4A State Tournament that pushed back the start date of the 2024 basketball season.
Thus far in the season, the Lady Billies have an 2-5 record with their two wins coming against Crossett, 43-34, and Pine Bluff, 39-19, with the loses coming to Stuttgart, Sheridan, Camden Fairview, McGehee, and Dumas.
The Lady Pirates are currently 10-2 with their two losses coming to Junction City, 61-59, and Fountain Lake, 51-47.
The Lady Pirates have defeated Crossett, Dermott, Bauxite, Maumelle Charter, Warren, Star City, Alpena, El Dorado, Helena, and Rison.
The Billies will come into the contest with an overall record of 1-5 with their win being a 72-22 victory over Ashdown.
