The Drew Central Junior Pirates played one of their best games of the season on Thursday, October 13, hosting the Barton Junior Bears at Mike Pennington Stadium.
Barton would receive the opening kickoff after winning the coin toss to begin the contest.
Barton would score on their opening drive to take an 8-0 lead after the two-point conversion.
Drew Central would cut the lead to 8-6 after Jaden Jones returned the Barton kickoff 77 yards for the Junior Pirate touchdown.
The Junior Pirate defense would force the Junior Bears to punt on their next possession.
The defense was led by Luke Chapman with two tackles for losses on the drive.
Chapman would lead the Junior Pirates on the night with at least six tackles including three tackles for loss for a total of 17 yards.
Drew Central would take over possession at the Barton 40-yard line after the downed punt.
A false start penalty would set the Junior Pirates back to the Barton 45 with Jones gaining three yards on the first play of the series to the 42-yard line. JaQuan Jacobs would cover the 42 yard on the next play to give the Pirates a 12-8 lead.
Barton would score on the kickoff to retake the lead 14-12 with 49 seconds remaining in the first quarter, but Jones would take the Barton kickoff back 84 yards for his second touchdown of the game.
Jacobs added the two point conversion to extend the lead to 20-14.
Drew Central would receive the second half kickoff and would hold the ball for the entire third quarter of play, but would turn the ball over on downs with 5:15 remaining in the contest on the Barton five-yard line.
Barton would be able to keep their drive alive throughout their final possession, capping off the drive with 44 seconds remaining in the contest.
Barton would add the two-point conversion to take a 22-20 lead.
Drew Central would advance the ball on their final possession to the Barton 32-yard line before turning the ball over to end the contest.
