Billies defeat Bulldogs to set up showdown with Lumberjacks

The Monticello Billies took the field on Friday at home against Star City in an 8-4A Conference contest with the Billies tied with Warren in conference play with both teams having undefeated conference records.

The Billies would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second but the BUlldogs would score four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-1 lead. 

The Billies would pull within one run in the bottom of the inning, 4-3, after scoring two runs.

The Billies would score the tying run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Star City would come back to score two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-4 lead.

The Billies would get their best inning of the contest in the bottom half of the inning.

The Billies would get a seven run inning after Jon Luke Brotherton led off the inning with a walk followed by a single in the inning by Blaine Hayden and doubles by Rohan Paten and Brotherton to give the Billies an 11-6 lead which they would hold through the next inning to take the win.

With the win the Billies would remain perfect in conference play heading into their conference contest against Warren, who also remained undefeated in 8-4A Conference play.

Travelling to Warren on Tuesday, the Billies would get on the board first in the top of the fourth inning on a score by Brooks Harvey.

Warren would tie the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning, 1-1.

The game would remain tied 1-1 for the next six innings with the Lumberjacks getting baserunners in the bottom of the 11th inning with AJ Jordan scoring the final run of the contest to keep the Warren Lumberjacks on top of the conference with a 2-1 extra innings win with Monticello falling to second.
