Billies defeat Camden Fairview Cardinals 7-2 to improve to 4-1 on season

The Monticello Billies have improved their overall record to 4-1 after a 7-2 win on the road at Camden Fairview.

The Billies defeated the Cardinals on Monday, March 2, at home to start the season.

After the home opening win, the Billies would travel to McGehee to face the Owls on Tuesday, March 3.

At McGehee, the Billies would send freshman Crews Preston to the mound to begin the contest. After getting the lead off batter to ground out, Preston would strike out the next two batters to end the inning. 

Monticello would get on the board first after a ground out by Jackson Hines scored Luke Reid.

The Billies would go on to score five runs in the second and third innings with McGehee scoring one in the fourth followed by three for the Billies to set up the run-ruled game 14-1.

Preston would get the win throwing four innings allowing one run on one hit and striking out eight.

Next up for the Billies would be Arkadelphia with Hudson Harvey taking the mound for the Billies.

Monticello would score six first inning runs on their way to an 8-5 win over the Badgers.

Harvey would get the win for the Billies, throwing five innings allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out six.

The Billies would next play De Queen in the Ralph Gross Memorial.

The Leopards would get five runs off starting pitcher Jon Luke Brotherton on seven hits.

The Leopards would not allow a run to the Billies, handing Monticello their first loss of the season 5-0.

After the contest it was announced that two Monticello Billie players were selected to the Ralph Gross Memorial All-Tournament Team.

Crews Preston was selected after batting .600 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base.

Joining Preston was Jeremiah Philley who batted .429 with a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base.

The Billies returned to action on the road on Monday night to face Camden Fairview for the second time in the season.

TK Hoover would start on the mound for the Billies and would see his team give him a one run advantage to start the contest, but Camden would take the lead in the bottom of the third scoring two runs.

Monticello would come back to tie the contest in the top of the fifth and would take the lead in the top of the sixth before taking the 7-2 win to improve to 4-1.

Hoover would pitch six innings allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out one.

The Billies would go 9 for 30 on the night at the plate, scoring seven runs, with only one strike out on the night.

Monticello will return to action on Thursday, March 12, hosting the Stuttgart Ricebirds at 5 pm and will be on the road on Friday night travelling to White Hall for a 5 pm contest.
