The Monticello Billies began 8-4A Conference play this past week on the road at Hamburg, facing the Lions on Thursday, March 19.
After a scoreless first inning for the Billies, Hudson Harvey would head to mound to start the game for the Billies.
Hamburg would get two runs in the bottom of the first off Harvey to take a 2-0 lead.
Monticello would get a run back in the top of the second after Luke Reid scored on a double by Danner Loyd.
The Billies would even the contest in the top of the second inning after Luke Reid connected for a double to score Luke Fakouri.
Jonah White would lead off the top of the fourth with a single followed by the second double of the contest by Loyd that broke the tie in favor of the Billies, scoring White for the 3-2 lead.
After a groundout, Crews Oreston would single to score Lyd to go up 4-2.
The Billies would add two more runs in the inning with Preston scoring on a fielder’s choice by Fakouri and Jackson Hines scoring on a single by Reid to give the Billies the 6-2 lead.
Harvey would not allow another run in the contest, pitching all seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out one in the 6-2 win for the first conference win of the season.
The Billies would return home on Friday, March 20, to host the McGehee Owls in a non conference contest.
It would be the second time this season the two teams would face each other.
Preston would get the call to start the contest, and would be given a 3-0 lead to work with after the Billies took a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Monticello added a run in the second, seven in the third, and six runs in the fourth to defeat the Owls for the second time in 2026, 17-2.
Preston pitched three innings allowing no runs on two hits with four strikeouts.
The Billies will return to 8-4A Conference play on Tuesday, March 31, travelling to Watson Chapel for a 5 pm start.
