Posted

Going back to April 10, after the Crossett Eagles handed the Monticello Billies their first 8-4A Conference loss of the season followed by a consecutive conference defeat to the Hamburg Lions on April 14, the Billies looked to be on a possible downward momentum slide.

Monticello would get a win over Watson Chapel, but would travel to Star City, with the Bulldogs handing the Billies their third conference loss of the season on April 21.

With the loss to Star City the Billies went from a first place standing in the conference to a possible to fourth place finish if they were not successful in the final two conference contests that would be played on the road.

Travelling to Crossett on Tuesday, April 28, the Billies would send Hudson Harvey to the mound to start the contest.

The Eagles would hold the Billies scoreless in the top of the first inning and would come back in the bottom of the first to score a run to take a 1-0 lead.

The Billies would take the lead in the top of the second to score three runs to go up 3-1.

Monticello added two more runs in the top of the third highlighted by a solo home run by Jackson Hines.

The Billies would go on to defeat Crossett 16-5 to set up a conference showdown with Warren on May 1 at Warren.

Against Warren, neither team would get on the board until the top of the third inning when Monticello got a run with Warren getting a run in the bottom of the inning.

Heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Billies found themselves trailing the Lumberjacks 4-3.

Monticello tied the game after a double by TK Hoover scored Danner Loyd.

The Billies would go one to score seven runs in the inning and would hold the Lumberjacks to one run to secure their first 8-4A Conference Championship since the 2022 season.

Monticello will travel to Crossett on Thursday, May 7, to face Arkadelphia in the first round of the 4A-4 Regional Tournament.

Game time is set at 10 am.
