Billies fall to the Hamburg Lions 12-7, defeat Watson Chapel Wildcats 17-0

Coming off their first conference loss of the season on Friday, April 10, in a 6-5 loss at home to the Crossett Eagles, the Billies would welcome the Hamburg Lions to Billie Field on Tuesday, April 14.

The Billies had defeated the Lions in an earlier season contest at Hamburg on March 19 by a score of 6-2.

Crews Preston would take the mound to start the game for the Billies and would give up a leadoff double that would cross the plate two batters later on a single to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.

The Billies would come back in the bottom of the first to score five runs.

TK Hoover led off reaching on an error followed by a walk to Preston.

Luke Reid would single to score Hoover followed by a single by Bo Hammock that scored Preston. 

After a walk to Jackson Hines, Jerimiah Philley would single that scored Reid followed by a fielder’s choice by Luke Fakouri with Hammock scoring, and Jackson Hines scoring on an error to give the Billies a 5-1 advantage.

Hamburg would cut the lead to 5-4 in the top of the third with the Billies adding a run in the bottom of the inning.

Hamburg added runs in the top of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, with Monticello adding a run in the bottom of the sixth with Hamburg leading 9-7.

The Lions would get three more runs in the top of the seventh inning and hold the billies scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to take the 12-7 win.

Monticello would get back in the win column on Friday night, hosting the Watson Chapel Wildcats.

Hudson Harvey would hold the Wildcats scoreless in the first inning, only allowing a double in the inning. 

It would be Watson Chapel’s only hit of the contest.

Monticello would score 13 runs in the bottom of the first and four runs in the bottom of the second to take the 17-0 win.

With the win, the Billies are 5-2 in conference play with Warren and Hamburg.

Monticello will travel to Warren on Friday, April 24, for their next conference contest with the game set for 5 pm.
