Billies go 3-0 in  conference with walk off win over Bulldogs

The Monticello Billies returned home on Friday night, April 3, after a non conference loss on Thursday night on the road at Sheridan 11-5.

The Billies would welcome the Star City Bulldogs to Monticello on Friday for the first home 8-4A Conference contest of the season. 

Star City would enter Billies territory looking for their first conference win after losing efforts at Crossett and at home against Warren. 

Monticello would hold conference wins on the road against Hamburg and Watson Chapel.

Star City would get out to an early lead on the Billies in the top of the first inning, scoring three runs to take a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first, TK Hoover would lead off the inning with a single followed by a double by Crews Preston.

Luke Reid would have an RBI groundout that scored Hoover.

Bo Hammock singled and would advance to second on a pickoff attempt that got past the first baseman and scored Preston.

Jerimiah Philley would reach base on an error that scored Hammock to tie the contest, 3-3.

Star City would go up in the top of the third after scoring a single run for a 4-3 lead and would add another run in the top of the fifth and another run in the top of the sixth to lead 6-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Monticello would go three up three down in the bottom half of the inning with Star City being held to three batters in the top of the seventh.

Tied 6-6 in heading into the bottom of the seventh, Preston would lead off the inning with a walk followed by a single by Luke Reid and a walk to Hammock to load the bases.

Jackson Hines would walk, scoring Preston followed by two more walks that tied the contest 6-6.

Lucas Colwell would draw the final walk of the contest that scored Jackson Hines to give the Billies the 7-6 come from behind win.

With the win Monticello improves to 3-0 in conference play.

Monticello returns home on Friday to face Crossett at 5 pm and will host Hamburg on Tuesday night with a 5 pm first pitch.
