Billies improve to 10-6 on the season with rain soaked win over Star City

The Monticello Billies returned to the diamond this week for a pair of 8-4A Conference contests

The Billies would travel to Warren to face the Lumberjacks on Friday, April 5, for the second time this season. 

Brooks Harvey would lead things off for the Billies with a walk and would be driven in two batters later on a single by Trystan White for the only run of the inning. 

In the top of the second inning, Brooks Bowman would lead off with a double followed by a single by Laytn Nichols and a walk to Kaleb Romero to load the bases. 

Two batters later, Brooks Harvey would lay down a sacrifice bunt that scored Bowman to give the Billies the 2-0 lead.

Warren would come back in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the contest after scoring two runs and would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring one run to give the Lumberjacks a 3-2 lead.

After holding Monticello scoreless in the top of the sixth, Warren would put up five runs to extend the lead to 8-2 to take the victory after sitting the bIllies down in order in the top of the seventh.

The Billies would score their two runs on six hits in 26 at bats in the contest with nine strikeouts at the plate.

Ty Guthrie would take the loss for the Billies, allowing three runs on eight hits.

Bowman would come into relief for Guthrie, allowing five runs on five hits. 

The Billies would move their next conference contest at home against Star City to Monday, April 8, in hopes of getting the contest in before heavy rains set in. 

Easton Byrd would get the start for the Billies and would allow two runners in the first inning without allowing a run. 

In the bottom of the inning, the Billies would start with a walk by Brooks Harvey followed by a double by Blaine Hayden and a walk to White.

Warren Pennington would connect for a single to score Harvey. 

Jagger Hines walked to score a run followed by Bowman reaching on an error to another run and a pair walks to Nichols and Romero that scored runs for a 5-0 lead.

Brooks Harvey would connect for a sacrifice bunt for two runs followed by Evan Bealer scoring on a wild pitch for an 8-0 first inning lead. 

A wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning would allow Pennington to score for a 9-0 lead for the Billies. 

Monticello would allow two runs in the top of the fifth inning and two more in the top of the sixth inning, but would come back to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the 11-4 victory.

With the win, the Billies improve to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play and are currently tied with Hamburg, record wise, for the second position with Hamburg holding a win over the Billies.

Monticello will travel to Fordyce on Thursday for a non conference contest and will return home to host Hamburg on Friday at 5 pm.
