With two weeks remaining in the 8-4A Conference regular season, the Monticello Billies and Lady Billies are looking to make the 4A-4 Regional Tournament for the second consecutive year.
In order to qualify for the tournament, both teams needed to take care of business on Friday night at the Billie Arena hosting the Hamburg Lions.
Both Monticello teams had defeated the Lions at Hamburg on January 16, with the Lady Billies defeating Hamburg 55-22 and the Billies defeating the Lions 54-53.
The Lady Billies would take the floor first on Friday night and would get on the board first after a two-point shot by Zariyah Gaston.
The Lady Billies would begin the contest scoring the first 10 points of the contest, outscoring the Lady Lions 10-2 in the first quarter.
Monticello would repeat their 10 points in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Lions 10-6 with Hamburg's six points coming on two three pointers.
Monticello would enter the half with a 20-8 lead.
Janiyah Goodman would score eight points in the third quarter to lead the Lady Billies in the quarter as the Lady Billies outscored Hamburg 19-3 in the quarter to take a 39-11 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
At teh beginning of the final quarter, the entire quarter would be played with a running clock under the “Sportsmanship Rule.”
Monticello would outscore Hamburg in the final quarter 11-3 to take the 50-14 win.
Janiyah Goodman would lead the way with 17 points followed by Zariyah Gaston with 14.
Anniyah Smith added nine, Eddy Grace Burch and Chynna Daniels with four, and Sariyah McCoy with two.
With the win, the Lady Billies improve to 3-3 in conference play and currently sit as the third seed.
For the Monticello Billies, Monticello would see Hamburg control the opening tip and go on a 7-0 run to begin the contest.
Christian Webb would get the Billies on the board with a two at 3:55 on the clock.
Hamburg would go on to outscore the Billies 14-11 in the first quarter.
The Billies would come back in the second quarter to outscore Hamburg 16-13 to send the contest to the locker room knotted up at 27.
Returning from the halftime break, Peyton Strickland would lead the Billies in the third quarter, scoring nine points in the quarter.
Christian Weeb would add five as the Billie would outscore the Lions 18-12 in the quarter to take a 45-39 lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.
Strickland would lead the Billies again in the fourth quarter, scoring six points in the quarter.
Sawyer Smith would get the final four points in the contest for the Billies, connecting on all four of his free throw shots.
Monticello would outscore the Lions 15-9 in the quarter to take the contest by a score of 60-48.
Peyton Strickland would lead the way with 27 points followed by Jayden Shaw with nine.
Christian Webb added seven, Gavin Trotter with six, and Joseph Accelus and Sawyer Smith with four points each.
Nathan Robertson rounded out the scoring with three points.
WIth the win Monticello moves to 3-2 in conference, holding the third seed.
Monticello will return to action Friday at Star City at 5:30.
