The Monticello Billies returned to Hyatt Field on Friday night after a scheduled bye week after falling on the road at Bauxite, 38-36, to fall to 0-2 on the season.
Hosting the Dumas Bobcats for the final non-conference contest on the schedule, the Bobcats would enter the contest with an overall record of 1-1 after falling to Hamburg the previous week 56-28 at Hamburg.
Dumas would win the coin toss and would elect to defer to the second half, giving the Billies the first possession of the contest.
Dumas’s Kirby Laguna kicked the ball away to begin the contest with Jayden Rhodes taking the ball at the Monticello 22, returning the ball up to the Monticello 40.
Joseph Accelus would get the first carry of the contest and would be met by the Dumas defense for a one yard loss back to the 39.
Jackson Hines would complete his first pass of the night to Danner Loyd for a 13 yard pick up and a first down, moving the ball into Dumas territory.
Hines would gain 20 yards on his first rush of the contest down to the Dumas 28 followed by a six yard gain by Accelus.
After a 10 yard block in the back penalty by the Billies moved the ball back to the Dumas 31, a combination of runs by Hines and Accelus would move the ball to the Dumas one where Edardo Ramos would push his way up the middle for the Billie score.
The extra point was no good giving the Billies a 6-0 lead with 6:35 remaining in the first quarter.
Dumas would begin their first drive of the contest on their own 23 and would move the ball down to the Monticello 22 on the drive before the Billies forced a fumble that was recovered by Max Efird at the Monticello 19.
The Billies would lose six yards to start the drive before Hines would connect with Loyd for a 87 yard touchdown pass.
Once again the extra point would not be successful as the Billies took a 12-0 lead.
Dumas’s next possession would extend into the second quarter with the drive ending at the Monticello 48, turning the ball over on downs.
Monticello would advance the ball to the Dumas 29 on two runs by Accelus but would move backwards to the Dumas 49 after a false start and an offensive pass interference penalty.
Hines and Accelus would advance the ball to the three with Accelus getting into the endzone and Hines adding the two-point play to increase the lead to 20-0.
Monticello would be forced to kick off twice after being flagged for a false start on the kickoff.
After the kick and return, Dumas would begin at their own 38 with the Monticello’s defense and Bobcat penalties forcing the ball back to the Dumas 33 where they were forced to punt the ball.
On the punt the ball would get away from the Dumas punter forcing him to chase down the ball and fall on it at the Dumas 16 where the Billies would take over on downs.
Accelus would gain four yards to the Dumas 12 followed by a run by Hines to the Dumas six and another run for Hines across goal line for the Billie touchdown.
The two-point conversion attempt was stopped by Dumas with the Billie lead increasing to 26-0 with 6:58 remaining in the half.
Dumas would begin their next drive at their own 35.
After offsetting penalties, the Dumas drive would come to an end on the second turnover of the contest after Kyle Young was intercepted by Jon Luke Brotherton at the Dumas 46.
Monticello would be forced to punt on their drive after the turnover, but would be able to get the ball back before the end of the half after forcing the Bobcats to punt with HInes taking the ball at the Monticello eight after signaling for a fair catch.
The Billies would take a knee to end the half and head to the locker room leading the Bobcats 26-0.
Dumas would receive the ball to begin the second half, and would lose yardage on the kickoff after taking the ball at their own 28 and being tackled for a loss to the 19 Dylan Prince.
Monticello would force Dumas to punt on the drive, but the snap to the punter would once again get away from the punter with the ball being covered by Dumas at the Dumas three yard line.
Hines would take the ball into the endzone for the second time in the contest and after the failed two-point try, the Billies increased the lead to 32-0.
Dumas turned the ball over on downs on their next drive and with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter, the Billies would go up 39-0, initiating the sportsmanship rule for the remainder of the contest, after a five yard run by Hines, his third rushing touchdown of the contest, and the extra point by Jude Parke.
By the end of the quarter, the Billies had pulled the starters to give the younger Billies some game experience.
Dumas would get on the board in the fourth quarter to set up the 39-8 final.
With the loss, Dumas falls to 1-2 with the Billies improving to 1-2.
Monticello will now enter the conference portion of the schedule with the Billies travelling to Hamburg to face the 2-1 Lions on Friday night.
The Lions have wins over McGehee and Dumas with a loss to Magnolia.
The Lions and Billies are scheduled for a 7 pm kickoff.
