The Monticello Billies Soccer team opened the 2025 Season on Friday night hosting the Hermitage Hermits.
The opening contest would be the first contest under new head coach Shaun Wilson, who coached the Warren Lumberjacks a season ago to the 8-4A Conference Championship.
The Billies would get on the scoreboard first in the contest off a corner kick that was headed in by Jacob Romero for the 1-0 lead with 38:25 remaining in the first half.
The Billies would have several shot attempts at goal in the first half but could only come away with a single goal in the half.
Hermitage would get two goals before the end of the half to hold a 2-1 lead at the halftime intermission.
Returning for the second half, the Billies would again be able to get into scoring position but the ball would miss its mark on several occasions by mere inches.
With 24:27 remaining in the contest, Joseph Rojas would be able to score the tying goal on a headshot goal to tie the contest at two.
Hermitage would get several shots at goal but Monticello's goalie, Eli Weaver would be able to stop the attempts to preserve the tie.
With 16:35 remaining in the contest, Romero would get a shot from 35 yards out that found its mark to give the Billies the 3-2 lead, holding on for the win.
