The 2025 Monticello Billie football season officially got under way on Tuesday, August 19, with the annual AAA Benefit Scrimmage game.
This season the Rison Wildcats would travel to Hyatt Field to face the Billies in a scrimmage contest under the rules of no kickoff or punt returns, free extra point kick attempts and for the first two quarters the starters would play a regular half minus the set protocols and a third quarter would be played under a running clock with the second string and other back-up players taking the field.
The contest would have to be scheduled at a later time, with the junior teams taking the field at 7pm, followed by the Billies and Wildcats taking the field at 8:15 due to extreme heat protocols that were put into place due to high temperatures across the region.
After the mock kickoff, the Monticello Billies would begin the first official live football drive of the season at their own 25 yard line.
Junior running back Joseph Accelus would get the first carry for a two yard gain, but the Billies would be pushed back on the drive from the 27 to the Monticello four.
Jackson Hines would connect with Accelus on his first pass of the night for a 96 yard strike as Accelus covered the field for the touchdown.
Joseph Rojas added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
Rison would answer on their opening drive with their own score and extra point after being aided on the drive by a pass interference call against the Billies.
Hines would connect with Jayden Rhodes for a 73 yard touchdown pass on their next drive to give the Billies a 14-7 lead after the Rojas' kick.
The score would remain for the remainder of the contest with the Billies taking the contest.
Monticello will officially begin the regular season on Friday, August 29, hosting the Fordyce Redbugs at Hyatt Filed with a scheduled 7 pm kickoff.
Fordyce is ranked as one of the top teams in the 3A Conference.
