Blossoms drop two in conference contests in Oklahoma

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Blossom Volleyball team took to the road this past week for a pair of Great American Conference contests in Oklahoma.

Coming off two home conference losses against Henderson State University and Harding University, the Blossoms would first travel to Alva, Oklahoma to face Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday, October 10.

The Blossoms would come into the contest with an overall record of 4-11 and a Great American Conference record of 0-5.

Northwestern would get the first two points to open the first set with the Blossoms getting the next two points to tie the contest 2-2.

Each squad would exchange points for a 3-3 score.

The Blossoms would be able to have several runs of four throughout the set, but the Lady Rangers were able to keep pace.

The Blossoms would get the final three points of the set to take the first set 25-21.

The second set would remain close until the Blossoms were able to score seven consecutive points to take a 19-12 lead in the set.

Northwestern would cut the lead to six points but the Blossom would take the set 25-17.

The third set would remain close with UAM trailing 21-20 before Northwestern would score the final points of the set to force a fourth set in the contest.

In the fourth set, Northwestern took control early to go in to tie the sets 2-2 after a 25-16 fourth set victory to force a fifth and final set in which the Lady Rangers narrowly completed the comeback taking the set 20-18 for the 3-2 win.

Staying in Oklahoma, the Blossoms would travel to Weatherford to face the SOuthwestern Oklahoma State University Lady Bulldogs on Friday, October 11.

Facing one of the top teams in the conference, the Blossoms could not get anything going as they would fall in three consecutive sets with Southwestern taking the first set 25-18, the second set 25-8, and the final set by a score of 25-11.

With the pair of losses, the Blossom fell to 4-13 on the season overall and 0-7 in Great American Conference play.

The Blossoms will return to Steelman Fieldhouse this week for a pair of contests.

On Thursday, the Blossoms will host Oklahoma Baptist University at 6 pm and on Friday the Blossoms will welcome Southern Nazarene to Steelman with a 4 pm start time.
