The University of Arkansas at Monticello came into Saturday’s contest looking to bounce back from three consecutive losses as the Weevils would host Southeastern Oklahoma State University for the 100th Homecoming Celebration at UAM.

The Weevils would come into the contest with a Great American Conference record of 2-3 with Southeastern having the same conference record of 2-3.

In head-to-head matchups, the Savage Storm hold the advantage coming into the contest with a 9-4 record against the Weevils with Southeastern winning the last three consecutive contests.

Before the kickoff to begin the contest, the University of Arkansas at Monticello would hold the coronation of the 2024 Homecoming Queen.

The Homecoming Court would consist of 12 young ladies with one being chosen to be the 2024 Homecoming Queen.

The court would consist of Shehna Akbary, Kaylyn Faith Dixon, Maguire Estill, Lexie Ruth Freeman, Emma Green, Jayden Grider, Magan McClain, Maddie Pfleging, Precious R. Thomas, Chandler Weast, Landon Elizabeth West, and Olivia Wilson.

After the festivities concluded, the Weevils would send the team captains to midfield for the opening coin toss which was won by the Weevils who elected to receive the football to begin the contest.

Southeastern would kick the ball 65 yards for a touchback to give the Weevils possession at their own 25.

UAM would start the drive with a five yard loss on a run by Slade LeBlanc, but LeBlanc would get four yards back on the next carry to the UAM 24.

Demilon Brown’s first pass of the day would be a completion to Jordan Mansfield for three yards but would be short of the first down forcing the Weevils to punt the ball away from their own 27 with Dylan Duhon’s punt going 34 yards with a four yard return to give the Savage Storm possession at their own 43.

UAM’s Alfernee Hankins would start the Weevil defense off with a sack for a four yard loss with the defense going on to force the Storm to punt on the drive with the Weevil beginning their possession at their own 13 yard line.

Neither team could get much going in the first quarter as both defenses were able to keep the offenses at bay to end the quarter tied 0-0.

Southeastern would move the ball down to the UAM six with a little over 8:00 to play in the half and would reach the one yard line where the UAM defense would stop the Savage Storm at the one, forcing Southeastern to turn the ball over on downs.

Southeastern would get the first score of the contest before the end of the first half to take a 7-0 lead into the locker room.

The Savage Storm would increase their lead to 14-0 in the third quarter with the only score of the quarter and would go on in the fourth quarter to add 13 points to get the shutout victory 27-0 over the Weevils on Homecoming.

With the win, Southeastern Oklahoma improves to 3-3 in GAC play with UAM falling to 2-4.

The Weevils will now look to next week’s matchup with their second consecutive contest at Willis “Convoy” Leslie Cotton Bowl Stadium, hosting the Arkansas Tech Wonderboys.

Arkansas Tech comes to Monticello with a 4-2 record having won their last two contests with a 44-21 win on the road over Northwestern Oklahoma State University and a 29-19 win at home over the Southwestern State University Bulldogs in their last contest.
