Blossoms improve to 5-1 with win over Mississippi College

While the UAM Weevils stayed home at Steelman Fieldhouse, the Blossoms would take to the road for two games during the Thanksgiving break.

The Blossoms would travel to Cleveland, Mississippi on Saturday, November 20, to face Delta State.

The Blossoms would enter the contest with a 4-0 record with Delta State coming into the contest with a 2-1 record.

Delta State would start the contest scoring the first four points before the Blossoms would get on the board on a pair of free throws by Alyssa Batton.

The Blossoms would go on to take the quarter 15-10.

The Blossoms would fall behind in the second quarter of play with Delta State going on a 9-0 run and going on to outscore the Blossoms 28-10 in the quarter to hold a 39-25 lead at the half.

The Blossoms would battle back in the second half, but would never get closer than three points as Delta State went on to win the contest by four points, 61-57.

The Blossoms would be led by Brilynn Findley with 11 points followed by Alyssa Batton with 10.

Alindsey Long added nine, Ja’Nae Southall with seven, with Harper Biley and Jena Warden scoring six.

Opal Hardy added for with Nicole Weaver and Ella Hamlin rounding out the scoring with two each.

The Blossoms would continue their Mississippi run on Tuesday, November 25, travelling to Clinton. Mississippi to face Mississippi College.

The Blossoms would get a 9-0 run in the first quarter with Jenna Warden connecting on a three-pointer, to take the stanza 16-9.

Mississippi College would battle back in the second quarter, pulling within two points with 1:54 remaining in the half and would go on to take the quarter 11-8 with the Blossoms holding on to a 24-20 lead at the break.

The Blossoms would maintain their lead through the third quarter, leading Mississippi College by eight points, 38-30 heading into the final quarter of play.

Mississippi College would be able to cut the lead to three points in the fourth quarter with  3:03 remaining in the contest but the Blossoms would once more take over the game allowing only one more basket from Mississippi College with the Blossoms taking the quarter 21-20 for the 59-50 win to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Alyssa Batton would lead the Blossoms with 18 followed by Alindsey Long with 15.

Brilynn Findley scored seven with Nicole Weaver, Ja’Nae Southall, and Jena Warden scoring five.

Opal Hardy and Ella Hamlin each had two.

The Blossoms return to Steelman Fieldhouse on Thursday to begin GAC play against Oklahoma Baptist at 5:30 pm and against Southern Nazarene Saturday at 1 pm.
