Blossoms, Weevils get weekend wins at home

It was a full weekend of sports action on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Monticello this past weekend.

On Saturday, the Blossoms would get things started on the hardwood, hosting the Henderson State Lady Reddies.

After a high scoring first quarter that saw the Blossoms hold a one point, 22-21, lead, the Lady Reddies would come back to outscore the Blossoms 14-9 in the second quarter to hold a 35-31 lead at the half.

The Blossoms would take over offensively in the third quarter scoring 24 points while defensively holding the Lady reddies to six points to take a 55-41 lead into the fourth quarter. 

Henderson would best UAM in the fourth 16-14 with the Blossoms taking the 69-57 victory.

Bailey Harris would score 23 points with Kelsey Blakemore scoring 17, and Haley Crews with 14.

Alyssia Thorne added nine, Alindsey Long with four, and Azaria Hulbert rounding out the scoring with two. 

The UAM Baseball Weevils would get underway at 2 pm on Saturday to begin conference play hosting East Central.

The Weevils would get runs in the bottom of the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a run-ruled, 11-1, win in seven innings of play.

Returning to Steelman Fieldhouse, the Basketball Weevils would take the court at 3 pm, host Henderson State. 

The Weevils would get a 10 point lead at the end of the first half of play, leading 38-28.

The Weevils would add 36 points in the second half with Henderson besting the Weevils 39-36 in the half but UAM would take the game 74-67.

It would be the Weevils second consecutive win.

Zane Nelson scored 24 points with Issac Jackson scoring 21.

Josh Denton added nine, Wesley Booker and Ty’Reonn King each scoring seven, and Timur Krupalija with six.

The baseball Weevils would return on Sunday to wrap up the East Central series with a double -header.

In Game One, the Weevils would defeat East Central in seven innings with a 14-0 win and would return in Game Two to complete the three game sweep, 4-3.

UAM Basketball and baseball will be on the road this week.
