Crossett comes back to hand Billies first conference loss of season

The Monticello Billies finished up the first half of the 8-4A Conference season this past week.

First the Billies would host the Warren Lumberjacks, and would send Crews Preston to the mound to start the contest.

Warren would get the first two batters on base after a single and a walk but would leave the runners stranded after Monticello recorded three consecutive outs.

The Billies would get on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Jackson Hines led off with a walk and would later score on a single by Luke Fakouri for the 1-0 lead.

Warren would tie the contest in the top of the third inning on an RBI single.

Monticello would score two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Warren added a run in the top of the fourth with the Billies scoring two runs in bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 5-2.

The Lumberjacks would pull within a run in the top of the sixth inning after adding two runs to trail 5-4, but the Billies would add the final run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Danner Loyd to give the Billies the 6-4 win.

Returning to Billie Field on Friday, April 10, hosting the Crossett Eagles.

After a scoreless first inning by Crossett, the Billies would get out on top of the Eagles in the bottom of the first on a single by Bo Hammock that scored Crews Preston and Hines reaching on an error that scored Luke Reid for the 2-0 lead.

Crossett got on the board in the top of the second on an error to cut the lead to 2-1.

Monticello would come back in the bottom of the inning to add two runs on a fielder’s choice and a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-1.

Crossett added a run in the top of the fourth inning with Monticello adding a run in the bottom of the fourth on a single by Danner Loyd for a 5-2 advantage.

Crossett would begin to chip away at the Billie lead in the top of the seventh inning after leading off the inning with a walk, a single, and a batter being hit by a pitch, the Eagles would get a run on a sac fly followed by consecutive walks, a fielder’s choice, and a double put the Eagles up on the board 6-5.

TK Hoover would lead off the bottom of the inning with a single, but Crossett recorded the next three outs for the comeback win 6-5.
