The Drew Central Pirates resumed their non conference schedule of the 2026 baseball season this past week with three contests.
Hosting the Hampton Bulldogs on Tuesday, March 17, the Pirates would send Hunter Griffin to the mound for the start at home.
Hampton would get their first batter on first after he was hit by a pitch and would get a second base runner after the second batter reached on an error.
The Pirates would record the next two outs before Hampton would put the first run on the board after a run crossed home on an error.
Griffin would record his second strikeout of the inning for the third out.
Cade Smith would lead off the bottom of the inning with a single and would advance to second on a ground out by Braylin Moore and would score from second on a ground out by Hunter Griffin to tie the contest.
Jaden Jones would draw a walk and would score on a Mason Maggard single to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead.
Drew Central would put the contest away in the bottom of the second inning.
After a lead off walk by Jaggar Hayes, the Pirates would score nine runs before Hampton recorded the first out of the inning.
Drew Central recorded seven more runs in the inning.
For the Pirates, the team would record five doubles in the inning with Hunter Griffin, Trent Burton, and Mason Maggard record one each and Barylin Moore recording two doubles in the inning to give the Pirates a 17-1 lead.
Hampton would have one more round at the plate to try to get the pIrate lead under 15 runs, but could only produce a single run to set up the 17-2 final score.
The Pirates would travel to Fordyce on Thursday, March 19, to face the Fordyce Redbugs for the second time in the 2026 season.
Fordyce defeated the Pirates at home on March 10 in a 4-2 ball game.
Cade Smith would lead off the contest for the Pirates with a walk followed by a double by Moore to score Smith for the 1-0 lead.
Hunter Griffin would be hit by a pitch and Jaden Jones would reach on a fielder’s choice. Both Griffin and Jones would score on an error on a pop fly by Colton Reed that was dropped by the right fielder.
Jones would go to the mound for the Pirates and would get the first Redbug batter to ground out.
After allowing a single and a walk, the Pirates would get the second out of the inning after a Fordyce runner was thrown out stealing.
After loading the bases, Jones would record the final out of the inning on a strikeout.
After a scoreless second inning, the Pirates would add four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 7-0 lead.
Fordyce would add a single run in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Pirate lead to 7-1.
Drew Central extended the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring two runs for the 9-1 advantage.
The Pirates added another run in the top of the fifth inning with Fordyce adding a run in the bottom of the fifth to trail 10-2.
After a scoreless sixth inning, the Pirates would add four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 14-2 lead with the Redbugs having the final bats in the bottom of the inning.
Will Morgan would see the Fordyce lead off batter reach on an error but after a strikeout and a double play would get out of the inning with the 14-2 win.
Returning home on Friday, March 20, hosting Smackover, the Pirates would find themselves in a hole other than the first inning trailing 5-0.
The Buckaroos would add two runs in the top of the second and three in the top of the fourth to take the 10-0 win.
The Pirates will travel to Hampton on Monday, March 30, before beginning conference play on Tuesday at home, hosting Rison at 4:30 pm.
